Here are the descriptions of Artist Proofs, and Paint Models as well as the low numbers in the edition, such as 1/2000:
Paint Model - This is an authentic Paint Model from Rick Cain's personal collection - It was painted by Rick Cain as a model for the artists that would then paint the limited edition sculptures to use as reference - It is marked as "Model" on the bottom (it does not have the usual gold label, as it is not included in the edition, but created before it), and Rick has signed it in gold ink as well, certifying it's authenticity as an official model.
(Artist Proofs are the first run of sculptures produced, which Rick Cain uses to adjust and experiment with the paint scheme. Some very subtle differences in the painting vary slightly, and most have been hand painted on by Rick Cain himself)
Once a paint scheme is set, and the paint model and artist proofs are created and finished, the limited edition sculptures, starting at #1 in the edition begin to be produced! From this point on, very subtle variations might occur, due to the fact that each piece is hand painted by our artists in the U.S., however no variation should occur at this point. The very lowest numbers, usually number 1-10 are reserved for Rick Cain's personal collection. These are the most valuable in the actual limited edition.
The value of Artist Proofs, Paint Models, and sculptures numbered 1-10 is about the same. Some people prefer the first numbers in the edition from a collector's standpoint, just because it's neat to see #1 or #2/2000 on the sculpture, but many collectors prefer Paint Models or Artist Proofs, knowing the artist himself has worked on them! It is sort of a matter of choice.
(Right now we are offering ALL sculptures at the same price, regardless of their number - It's a cool opportunity and a special deal!)
I hope this helps!
